City of Glendale issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.
Downtown Glendale is the place where holiday fun lives with Downtown in December. Downtown’s beautiful Murphy Park is in the center of it all with Murphy Park LiGHTS!
This year’s holiday light display includes a 20-foot walkthrough snowman and a 30-foot tree with lights that dance to the music. Join us as the park comes alive with the magic of light at 6 p.m. on November 19.
The lights will be on every night through January 9. It is the perfect kick-off to a holiday season filled with entertainment to bring family and friends together as they discover hyper-local shops, boutiques and award-winning restaurants in the heart of downtown Glendale.
The lights are just the beginning. Throughout the holidays, the park and downtown will be filled with music, song, dance and fun.
Every Friday and Saturday in December community groups will take the stage at the Murphy Park Amphitheater with free holiday performances. For a lineup visit www.glendaleaz.com/downtownindecember
You won’t want to miss The Sacred G’s as they light up Murphy Park with their own brand of illumination. These artists, in interactive LED suits, bring street dance and theatrics to life on November 28, December 12, December 19 and January 2. Performances start just after sunset. And be sure to check out our first LiVE! Jam Session, the evening of December 18. It’s the gift of live, local music to welcome our downtown visitors.
Of course, what would the holidays be without a visit from Santa? The Jolly Old Elf, himself, will pay a visit during Mayor Jerry Weiers’ Annual Hometown Christmas Parade, December 11. Everyone is invited to enjoy the family-friendly festivities that will take place between 52nd and 58th avenues along Glendale Avenue. Enjoy more than 120 entries highlighting local schools, service organizations and businesses from around the Valley. The parade starts at 11 a.m.
The Hometown Christmas Parade supports Hope for Hunger, making this a great time to get in the spirit of giving. We will have a donation box in first floor lobby of Glendale City Hall. You can find out more about Hope for Hunger at: https://www.hcparade.org/food-drive.
Why not make a holi-DAY of it? After the parade, grab a bite to eat and shop for one-of-a-kind presents, then stay as The Bling Tour wows the crowd with amazing dance moves in the Murphy Park Amphitheater.
And as if Santa were not enough, how about a host of superheroesto ring in the holidays? LIBCON West comes to the Velma Teague Library and Murphy Parkon December 4. From Superman to Stormtroopers you never know who might show up or from what galaxy they are from, but you won’t want to miss them. https://www.libconwest.org/
For great shopping and dining, merchants are sponsoring events and specials throughout downtown. Make sure to discover all the fun planned for the holidays at: https://experienceglendale.app/events/
Help us kick it all off November 19, with Murphy Park LiGHTS!
The Mayor, councilmembers, city staff and downtown merchants will be on hand to spread some holiday cheer, before turning on the lights.
The fun starts at 6 p.m., in Murphy Park, located in downtown Glendale at 5850 W. Glendale Avenue, with plenty of free parking.
