City of Peoria issued the following announcement on Jan. 5.
On Wednesday, Jan. 5, the City of Peoria started testing an autonomous shuttle, RoboRide Medical, as part of a four-month pilot program. The free, electric, driverless shuttle operates in the healthcare district near Plaza Del Rio Boulevard and will run Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. With the help of Arizona State University, the City of Peoria and Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) will study the feasibility of autonomous vehicles, analyzing data on high-tech mobility and ridership patterns to better understand future transit opportunities and mobility solutions. Plaza Del Rio is home to more than 100 medical facilities and more than 500 senior living residences. This service connects Peoria residents from their point-of-origin to their destination within the same service area.
