City of Peoria issued the following announcement on Jan. 12.
The Peoria Main Library has a new look for the new year. The City of Peoria’s oldest library, located at 8463 W. Monroe St., recently underwent a renovation to expand and update the facility. On Saturday, Jan. 29 at 10:30 a.m., the city will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony, storytime and tour for residents.
“Peoria’s libraries are at the heart of our community,” said Nathaniel Washburn, Peoria Library Manager. “By investing in and reinventing our libraries, we are providing beautiful, safe spaces for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to learn and connect with each other and the world of knowledge.”
This renovation is the first one for Peoria Main Library since its construction in 1991. Prior to this project, the library received updated furniture, fixed seating and ADA enhancements. Now, the Peoria Main Library has a new roof, HVAC system, fire alarm system, lobby, skylight, front desk, exterior patio and other design and site improvements to improve the library patron experience and offer event friendly spaces. These upgrades were funded in Peoria’s 10-year Capital Improvement Program.
The Peoria Public Library System has two libraries that offer thousands of books, audiobooks, e-books, music, films, and e-resources with a Peoria Public Library Card, which is available to any resident of Maricopa County. The libraries also sponsor free programs and events for all ages throughout the year, including storytimes for the kids, book clubs, teen clubs, educational and entertainment events, and much more.
