Sundial Recreation Center’s Silver Stones Club selected Mike Pfeiler

Sundial Recreation Center’s Silver Stones Club selected Mike Pfeiler as their newest featured artist. Mike has only been in the club for 9 months, which makes the selection that much more impressive! In this short time period, Mike has produced enough quality pieces to be recognized.

Mike and his wife Becky took a glass fusion class taught by Janet Allison that proved to spark their interest. In his words, “Glass fusion looked exciting and the fun part is trying different things.  Some work, some don’t.”  When asked about the types of creations he likes the most, he replied, “My wife and I just finished an aquarium which took a lot of trial and error. We have done Christmas ornaments and now we are doing night lights.  I’m thinking about starting lapidary so we can make stands for our glass.” His favorite piece is his last night light which is a palm tree that shows a sunset when the light is on.

When asked what attracted him to his craft and if he has any other craft/art hobbies, he replied, “I took art in high school and really liked it, but never did anything until I was 40.” His inspiration and biggest influence for his creations come from his love of Hawaiian landscapes and bright colors, the bolder the better.  He states, “I like big and different.  I wear the brightest of Hawaiian shirts.” As for motivation, Mike loves making things for his wife and for friends and family.  He states, “I love when something is done and somebody loves it.  I enjoy giving it to them.”  He describes the favorite part of working his craft as “coming up with an idea, then figuring out how to make it work. I sort of get in a zone and have fun with it.”

Silver Stones is currently open from 8am -12pm. Members can request extended hours as needed. As more members return in the fall, hours will return to 8am - 3pm.
