Arizona State Rep. Austin Smith said he is "pro-life from conception to natural death" in response to the Arizona Supreme Court's ruling to uphold the pre-Roe laws regarding abortion.

"I am pro-life from conception to natural death," Smith said in a post on X. "Thankful for my Arizona Freedom Caucus colleagues who feel the same. We will continue to lead the way and be unabashedly in favor of supporting both the mother and the unborn child."

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled that an 1864 law banning abortion from the time of conception, with an exemption for saving the mothers life, would be upheld in the state.

The Arizona Freedom Caucus released a statement after the ruling, saying "as Republicans, we should be proud of the fact that today the lives of the preborn are more protected than they have been since SCOTUS’ fatally flawed Roe decision more than a half century ago. Murdering children is not a policy disagreement. Democrat politicians’ infatuation with murdering children is evil."

Smith is a fifth generation Arizonian, he grew up working in agricultural jobs on farms and ranches before joining conservative grassroots movements and Turning Point USA. He helped Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk start and run Students For Trump.

Smith was elected to the Arizona State House of Representatives in 2022, representing Legislative District 29.
