Yvonne Schneider found a rebirth at GCU's College of Doctoral Studies. Schneider, who transitioned from another university, expressed her dissatisfaction with her previous institution, stating, “I just felt I was getting nowhere, and their dissertation courses, I feel, didn't prepare me.”
After transferring to Grand Canyon University (GCU) as a bulk transfer student, Schneider was thrilled to have 27 credits transferred, which was more than any other university had offered her. She remarked, “I was extremely blessed to get the maximum number of credits to transfer over (27).”
Dr. Michael Berger, dean of the College of Doctoral Studies at GCU, highlighted the importance of community, support, and innovation within the program. He emphasized the significance of the personalized attention and care that Schneider received during her transition, stating, “She met people who really cared about her and wanted to make her part of the community.”
Schneider commended the engaging and supportive environment at GCU, especially appreciating the interaction with peers and professors in the online setting. She noted, “Even though it’s online, it’s set up as a positive atmosphere for the students.”
Throughout her academic journey at GCU, Schneider received assistance from various professors and advisors, including Dr. Chuck Banszewski, Dr. Amy Benton, and Ashley Armstrong. Dr. Nicholas Markette, Assistant Dean at the College of Doctoral Studies, mentioned that Schneider's desire for more learning and connection aligned well with the program offerings at GCU.
Looking ahead, Schneider aims to resume her teaching duties upon completing her doctorate from GCU. Despite facing personal challenges and juggling multiple responsibilities, she has thrived academically with the support of the university's staff and resources.
As Schneider progresses towards her educational goals, her experience as a bulk transfer student at GCU serves as a testament to the institution's commitment to facilitating seamless transitions and providing a supportive academic environment for doctoral candidates.
