Spectrum of research revealed at annual colloquium

The seventh annual Kevin McClean Research Colloquium, hosted by the Eta Chi chapter of international business honor society Delta Mu Delta, showcased a diverse range of research projects and findings from scholars and students at Grand Canyon University.

Dr. Kathy Archer, Associate Professor of Economics at GCU, displayed her versatility by participating in multiple presentations. She presented on "Online Student Agency: Markers for Success in a Virtual Classroom" and later discussed ageism and health care from a Christian perspective. Archer's expertise and candid responses during the question-and-answer sessions were notable throughout the event.

Jonathan T. Gilkey, a senior majoring in business management, passionately presented his research on "Examining True Servant Leadership Within the Workplace." Gilkey's study highlighted the importance of servant leadership, drawing examples from Costco and Target as companies that excel in this model.

Dr. Thomas Christner and Dr. Gary Almy presented their research on "Gamifying Students’ Learning in University Introduction Course," emphasizing the use of a badge system to enhance student motivation and engagement in online courses.

Hanadi Altawil delved into the topic of "X and Y Cohorts - Understanding the Perceptions Based on Age, Technology Literacy, and Attitudes Towards Technology," shedding light on the impact of age and technology literacy on individuals' perceptions.

Dr. Evelyn Fox explored "Effective Leader Supports for Teachers’ Psychological Needs Described by Novice K-12 Online Teachers," providing insights into the support systems necessary for novice online teachers in K-12 education.

The colloquium featured a total of six presentations, with some exceeding time limits but sparking engaging discussions during the Q&A sessions. The event, held at the Colangelo College of Business, included both in-person and virtual presentations, showcasing the dedication of GCU's faculty and students to advancing research in various fields.
