U.S. Representative David Schweikert (AZ-01) delivered a speech on the House Floor this week, addressing issues related to congressional spending, disinformation, and economic policies. Schweikert criticized Congress for its difficulty in managing fiscal responsibilities and accused members of misleading the public about the severity of the national debt crisis.
"I like to start with this chart because it lays out where we are at today," said Schweikert. "Seventy-four percent of the spending is on autopilot. We don’t get to vote on it... Every dime of it is borrowed."
Schweikert also highlighted concerns regarding fake news propagated by bots and alleged that such practices set a precedent for national leaders, including President Biden. He pointed out instances where Democrat activists allegedly created fake newspapers filled with propaganda.
"It turns out a number of Democrat activists are actually setting up fake newspapers," he stated. "Think about that — in America, about half of the small-town newspapers you see are actually fake."
Additionally, Schweikert criticized the Inflation Reduction Act and subsidies for electric cars, arguing that they hinder technological disruption and competition.
"They’re very proud of saying, 'We’re subsidizing electric cars!' My wife has an electric car. She loves it! The data basically said... almost everyone that’s going to buy an electric car is buying them with or without the subsidy," he remarked.
Schweikert serves on several committees including the House Ways and Means Committee as Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee, Vice Chairman on the Joint Economic Committee, and co-chairs multiple caucuses such as Blockchain Caucus and Telehealth Caucus.
