U.S. Representative David Schweikert (AZ-01) recently addressed the House of Representatives, focusing on the escalating federal deficit and proposing solutions to curb spending and reduce government inefficiencies. Schweikert emphasized the importance of prioritizing the national debt to prevent future generations from experiencing financial hardships.

During his speech, he highlighted H.R. 8283, known as the CLEAN CLAIMS Act, which aims to expedite Medicare claims processing and detect improper payments. According to Schweikert, "The only way out of this fiscal crisis is through, and implementing innovation in different government sectors is our fastest and cheapest method to accomplish that."

Schweikert also discussed the impact of interest rates on federal spending. He pointed out that interest is now the second largest expense for the federal government, accounting for 14.1% of all spending last fiscal year. He noted, "Has anyone paid attention to the bond market the last three weeks?... We’re going to show [how] to actually deal with the interest track."

Furthermore, Schweikert addressed potential budget cuts and their limitations: "[Say] you’re a brand-new member of Congress... Every dime is borrowed." He explained that even eliminating defense and discretionary spending would not balance the budget due to obligations like Social Security and Medicare.

On immigration policy, Schweikert advocated for a talent-based system: "What if I came to you and said we’re moving to a talent-based immigration system? It turns out people with advanced degrees pay a boatload of taxes..." He criticized current border policies for negatively affecting low-skilled domestic workers.

Schweikert holds positions on several committees, including serving as Chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee on the House Ways and Means Committee. He also participates in various caucuses focused on technology, healthcare access, and economic issues.
